Fonality Announces Support for R2 ITU Telecom Standard in Latin America

E1-R2 Support Opens Up Large New Markets for Open Source trixbox CE

Los Angeles – Fonality®, the leading provider of open source telephony and communications systems for growing businesses, today announced that the open source telephony platform, trixbox CE, now supports the E1-R2 ISDN (ITU R2 Signaling Recommendations) configuration standard on trixbox CE systems distributed in Latin America. With more than 125,000 downloads a month, trixbox CE is the most popular Asterisk®-based distribution in the world. It combines the best open source telephony tools into one easy-to-install package, along with the trixbox dashboard which provides a web-based interface to configure and manage a complete IP-PBX system. With this update, all Sangoma-produced cards for trixbox CE now have built-in R2 support.

“Adding R2 support underscores Fonality’s commitment to trixbox CE community by providing easy-to-use, tested and supporting ITU Telecom standards, anywhere in the world,” said Chris Vuillaume, Fonality vice president of business development and channels. “With R2 support we have added Central and South America to the rapidly growing list of regions that are seeing adoption of trixbox.”

“It is vital for open source telephony users in México, Brazil and other central and South American countries to have stable, compliant and well supported R2 signaling support," said Moises Silva, who is responsible for the OpenR2 project. "Developed with the financial help of Sangoma as well as their development hardware, OpenR2 provides a reliable and functional MFC/R2 implementation.”

The addition of E1-R2 support expands trixbox’s impressive portfolio of support for international telecom standards. In addition to E1-R2, trixbox CE already includes BRI support, an ISDN configuration standard in many European countries, and E1 support that delivers deep compatibility with European standards.

“Support of E1 R2 ISDN connections in Latin America, is absolutely a MUST ” said Gonzalo Blousson, IT Director for Clixolutions in Argentina. “For the last two months, we have been testing the R2 solution with trixbox and are very pleased with the integration it provides with R2 networks in Latin America. We look forward to supporting installations throughout the region.”
